THE METAL PHENOMENON

The Metal Phenomenon is all about metal - my view on metal. I have been a metal head for over 15 years and I have been mostly drawn towards the extremer metal genres. A few years back I started writing concert and festival reviews for Allmetalfest.com and doing interviews for an old-school underground print zine called Offense Zine. Having tasted blood, I decided to start my own blog early in 2016.

The Metal Phenomenon was birthed in a full moon night, the flames ablaze and the moon and stars glimmering in the darkness over lakes and forests while muses Calliope and Euterpe were dancing naked around the bonfire with me, Naamah, Lilith and Lamia, drinking blood out of a silver chalice, chanting age-old hymns…..

Well, this is almost true…..I had been carrying around the thought of an own blog for a few years so on a stormy day at the beginning of the year on which Hel(l)sinki tried to earn the title of Heart of Winter (to add some actual trveness to this history of origins that included the opposite of dancing around the fire naked: huddled up in layers of winter clothes, snowflakes turning black fabric white and the wind grasping with ice cold fingers) I decided to actually put the thought into action and if felt like giving birth to an idea that had been slumbering within me for quite a while.

Merriam-Webster defines a phenomenon as “something (such as an interesting fact or event) that can be observed and studied and that typically is unusual or difficult to understand or explain fully” and “someone or something that is very impressive or popular especially because of an unusual ability or quality”.

The name comes from the twofold thought that it cannot be fully explained or understood why for so many people metal is so crucial and very often a major part of their lives both time wise as well as in regards to its importance. At least, that’s how it is for myself. I can only explain to a certain degree why metal is the music I fall in love with over and over again, and why it has become so much more than music. It is an experience; it makes me wonder. And of course, metal is also just phenomenal!

The Metal Phenomenon revolves around metal, mostly of the extremer kind. I will continue doing interviews as well festival and concert reviews. Metal music is where the blog’s roots lay but I will also branch out to include everything I see as ‘metal’ - from art, literature, fashion, traveling to aesthetics and philosophy….whatever comes my way and I deem interesting, fascinating, inspiring, funny, worthwhile, weird or I just want to write about because I can. These are my views and interpretations on all things metal – nothing more, nothing less.

In this spirit, I hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as I will enjoy writing it.
